Joe Falasco Receives Committee Appointment by Arkansas Supreme Court

Joseph R. Falasco was recently appointed to the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Model Jury Instructions – Civil for a three-year term. Mr. Falasco is located in the firm’s Little Rock office and his practice focuses on real estate litigation, product liability, class actions, and appeals.

Steve Quattlebaum Named Law360 Legal Lion After Talc Trial Win

Steven W. Quattlebaum was named a Legal Lion by Law360 after achieving a defense verdict for Johnson & Johnson in a talcum powder asbestos exposure trial. After deliberating roughly one day following a three-week trial, the jury rejected the plaintiff’s claim that his pleural mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lungs often associated with asbestos exposure, was caused by his use of Johnson’s Baby Powder.  Mr. Quattlebaum and Brittany S. Ford, along with Julia Romano from King & Spalding LLP, represented Johnson & Johnson in the trial held September 20-October 11, 2019, before the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Los Angeles.

Tom Wyatt Selected for Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXV

Thomas H. Wyatt has been selected to participate in Class XXXV of the Leadership Greater Little Rock (LGLR) program, an initiative of the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce.  LGLR is designed to develop effective leaders by enhancing their civic, social and professional awareness to positively impact our community.  Committed to connecting leaders from businesses, nonprofits and government, this unique program has empowered participants with a comprehensive understanding of our region’s challenges and opportunities.  Each year, around 50 class members are selected from hundreds of applicants to participate in the nine-month program.  Each month, the class meets at a different Central Arkansas venue to explore topics through expert speakers, panelists, tours, and group presentations.  Topics include history, community, education, government and politics, and economic development. Mr. Wyatt is located the firm’s Little Rock office and concentrates his practice on commercial and property litigation.

Firm Welcomes Four New Associates

Ms. Calvert is located in Little Rock and will concentrate her practice on litigation. Andrew S. Dixon received his J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law and is based in the Northwest Arkansas office where he will focus on litigation. Ann Carol Farmer is located in the Northwest Arkansas office where she will concentrate on real estate law and business transactions. Ms. Farmer received her J.D. and Business Law Certificate from the University of Arkansas School of Law. Meredith A. Powell obtained her J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law. Located in Little Rock, Ms. Powell will focus her practice on litigation.

Chad Pekron Named Fellow Of The Litigation Counsel of America

Chad W. Pekron has become a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. The Litigation Counsel of America is an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society established to reflect the new face of the American bar. Membership is limited to 3,500 Fellows, representing less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers. The composition of the LCA is aggressively diverse, with recognition of excellence among American litigation and trial counsel across all segments of the bar. The purpose of the LCA is to recognize deserving, experienced, and highly qualified lawyers, to provide an outlet for scholarly authorship of legal articles on trial and litigation practice, to provide additional sources for professional development, to promote superior advocacy and ethical standards in the practice of law, to assist in community involvement by its membership, and to advance a superior judiciary by taking relevant positions on issues or legislation affecting judicial compensation and/or benefits, as well as those affecting the American litigation process. Joey Price Appointed to MEMS Board

Joseph W. Price II has been appointed by North Little Rock Mayor Joe Smith to the Board of Directors of Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services for a five-year term. Serving Pulaski, Grant & Faulkner Counties and the cities of Maumelle, Cabot & Conway, MEMS covers approximately 2,400 square miles and over 500,000 people. Mr. Price is a Member of the law firm and focuses his practice on civil litigation.

John Tull To Present at Arkansas Press Association FOIA Seminar

The Arkansas Press Association is hosting a special seminar highlighting the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act on September 19, 2019, at the APA Headquarters in Little Rock. As a two-time winner of the APA’s FOIA Award, John E. Tull III will kick off the seminar by offering practical tips and suggestions on access to public records and meetings under FOIA. Joey Price Reappointed DRI State Membership Chair

Chad Pekron Appointed to Board of Education

Chad W. Pekron has been appointed to the Arkansas State Board of Education by Governor Asa Hutchinson. Mr. Pekron’s seven-year term will expire in 2026. The Arkansas State Board of Education is a nine-member board composed of two members of each of the state’s four congressional districts and one member selected at-large. Composed of business and community leaders, the Board is the policy making body for public elementary and secondary education in Arkansas. Mr. Pekron is a Member of the law firm and concentrates his practice on complex business, tort, and commercial litigation.

John Tull To Serve On Trial Academy Faculty

John E. Tull III will serve on the faculty of the International Association of Defense Counsel’s 47th Annual Trial Academy being held July 27-August 2, 2019, at Stanford Law School. The IADC Trial Academy is one of the oldest and most respected programs for developing defense trial advocacy skills. The seven-day intensive program blends faculty instruction and demonstration with individual student participation. The faculty consists of leading defense trial lawyers selected on a national basis from different regions of the country. Each faculty member is assigned to a group of five to seven students which allows for individualized attention and instruction. The faculty utilizes proven methods of instruction for a full learning experience and exposes participants to different approaches and ideas in solving common trial problems. Each student conducts opening statements, direct and cross examination of lay witnesses, direct and cross examination of medical doctors and economists, and closing statements. These exercises are videotaped and the faculty member critiques them with the student. Christoph Keller will be participating as a student for this session. The IADC Trial Academy was initiated by the International Association of Defense Counsel in 1973 at the University of Colorado and moved to the prestigious Stanford Law School in 2004. The purpose of this continuing legal education program is to enhance advocacy trial skills of less experienced lawyers. More than 4,000 students have attended the Trial Academy since 1973. Mr. Tull is a Managing Member of the law firm and concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation, products liability litigation, and media law.

Scott Lar Speaks On Opportunity Zones

Scott M. Lar participated in the Invest Springdale Summit held at The Apollo on Emma on June 20, 2019. Scott was part of a panel discussion on the Qualified Opportunity Zone Program and how the program can be utilized to drive investment and redevelopment in Springdale, Arkansas. Organized by the Springdale Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Springdale Alliance, Invest Springdale was a half-day meeting for Northwest Arkansas business and community leaders to share ideas, opportunities and resources promoting accelerated investment and development in downtown Springdale. Scott is located in the firm’s Northwest Arkansas office and concentrates his practice on mergers and acquisitions, taxation, tax litigation, corporate transactions and estate planning.

QGT attorney Joseph W. Price II has successfully completed the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce’s annual leadership program. The 51 members of Leadership Greater Little Rock Class XXXIV were honored at a graduation luncheon at the DoubleTree Hotel on June 21. Designed to develop a network of skilled leaders, the program informs, educates and trains participants on a wide variety of public issues. One day a month, October through June, the class meets at a different Central Arkansas venue to explore topics through expert speakers, panelists, tours and group presentations. More than 1650 community leaders have participated in the nine-month course since its inception. Mr. Price is a Member of the law firm and focuses his practice on civil litigation.

Steve Quattlebaum Named to 2019 Lawdragon 500

Steven W. Quattlebaum  was recently selected as a member of the 2019 Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America, the seventh time he has received this distinction. Selection to this elite group comes through a group of veteran legal journalists who review thousands of submissions of outstanding lawyers from all regions and practice areas of the American legal profession, including private attorneys, government and other public interest attorneys, judges, and law school professors. From that group, the 500 leading lawyers are chosen by Lawdragon. David B. Lar are scheduled presenters for the 2019 Delta Leadership Network Annual Conference, February 5-7, 2019, at the Little Rock Marriott Downtown.  This year’s conference will focus on partnership development opportunities that are both local and regional in the Delta Regional Authority’s footprint.  Ken and Scott will discuss Federal Opportunity Zones, a new tax incentive program enacted as part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.   For more information on the conference and to register, please visit the conference website.
